I was planning to write my first post on post-processing (PP) of photographs. Since that was my first post related to PP, I wanted to dedicate one complete paragraph to ADOBE PHOTOSHOP. I had decided that I would keep that paragraph as short as possible. But when I started writing, I realized that things aren’t going the way I had planned. So I decided that instead of writing one paragraph, why not dedicate a whole post to this amazing product of computer-science!
NOTE: Please bear with me. I promise that I would never talk about Photoshop in so much detail in any of my posts in the future!
I insist/urge/request/beg you to get a copy of this most fantastic/brilliant/ultimate software present on Earth. Please get a copy of this software if you still don’t have one. You will really enjoy playing with it!
Every PP post that I will write will be related to Photoshop. Although I have started using Lightroom more than Photoshop now (because now I shoot in the RAW format and not JPEG) but still, I will always have a soft corner in my heart for this software. When I started reading photography tutorials during my early days, I observed that almost fifty percent of them ended on Photoshop. It was then that I decided to get this software. (How I got my first copy is again a long story. Would be wise to skip it.)
I have seen posts comparing Photoshop with other softwares which occupy less space on your hard-disks and are available as free-downloads. But trust me. Comparing Photoshop to any other free software (I am feeling an urge to name them but I will not) is like comparing Honda CBR 250R and Honda CBR 1000RR. Both come from the same company. Both are built on almost the same frame, are quite similar aesthetically, serve the same purpose of carrying a commuter from one place to another.
But are they same at all?
250R is good for a country like India (I would say that it is more than sufficient), has good power and you can actually feel the torque when you engage the gear and accelerate. But would this 250 cc engine ever be able to get even close to that 1000 one?
Ans: NO
Similar is the case with Photoshop. There are other softwares available for free and are decent enough for general purposes. But there is only one master and it will always remain one- ADOBE PHOTOSHOP! To get that extra edge, you will have to get used to this. You will have to learn how to work your way out with things on this software. And trust me, once you will get an idea of the basics, (I am repeating my statement) You will really enjoy playing with it!
Photoshop is a software which has no limits. I believe even the creators of this software don’t know what all is possible in this software because there are so many tools available in it and when you combine a few, you get a completely new result! So you never know what all can be done. Anything can be done with a photograph in Photoshop, ANYTHING! This is because it gives you the control to manipulate each and every pixel of the photograph. If you have the required skills, you can convert a photograph of Christian Bale to that of Anne Hathway (Yes, The Dark Knight Rises is still on my mind)
I will try to keep all my PP posts as layman oriented as possible. My next post will be on PP, and that too on a topic that I feel becomes a big problem for all of us at times. In the meanwhile, please arrange for a copy of the software.
Happy reading. And Happy Friendship Day!
you should have mentioned how to obtain it!
There is only one way of obtaining it and that is to buy it from Adobe! 🙂
